• The Rising Star of Rusty Nail

Posted on May 28, 2009 by in Historical Fiction, William Allen White

Franny Hansen is a 10-year-old in the tiny Minnesota town of Rusty Nail. She is an amazing pianist, but her future seems limited by the fact that her parents can’t afford a good piano teacher. There also aren’t a lot of opportunities to compete or perform in Rusty Nail.
When a mysterious woman – a Russian during the time of the Cold War – moves to town, though, a lot of things change for Franny. Most of the town thinks the new woman is a “Commie spy,” but Franny learns that most rumors aren’t worth listening to. Could the newcomer be Franny’s ticket out of Rusty Nail?
