• The Trouble Begins at 8: A Life of Mark Twain in the Wild, Wild West by Sid Fleischman

Posted on May 6, 2009 by in Biography, Humorous Stories, Nonfiction

I believe Mark Twain would find this biography of his life very ammusing and fun to read. Sid Fleischmann, accomplished author of many books for young people, has captured the tone of Mark Twain’s adventursome tales and used this style to describe the many ups and downs, twists and turns, and upside-down roundabouts of Mark Twain/Samuel Clemens’s life. Did you know how he got his pen name? Or that he tried to get rich in the gold rush and with other get-rich-quick schemes? This easy-to-read biography shows how Mark Twain’s writing career began with a jumpy start, with crazy short stories, exaggerated journalism, and short bouts of fame that finally led him to write the American classics we all know and love.
