Missing May, by Cynthia Rylant, is a book about dealing and healing with death. After the death of beloved Aunt May, Summer and Uncle Ob have to find a way to deal with her death and in time, heal. Uncle Ob believes that Aunt May speaks to him through the wind and wants to speak to her more directly. Ob, Summer, and Summer’s friend Cletus, pack up and take a trip to the capital to find somebody who can speak to May for them. As their trip turns into heartbreak as the person they were looking for was no longer living, Uncle Ob and Summer realize that all they need was each other to heal and be happy again. Missing May is a Newbery Medal winner and is still to this day, one of my favorite books.
