I didn’t know about Jack Prelutsky’s playful poems until I joined the Children’s staff here at MPL. He is now a favorite of mine, along with Shel Silverstein. This book is a collection of 28 short poems, in a colorful picture book format with illustrations by Petra Mathers. This book would be a great intro to poetry for preschool and early elementary aged kids, but a fun read for fans of all ages of Prelutsky and Silverstein. Alot of the poems are about animals or unusual places and people and the illustrations capture the lighthearted miniature stories.

For more Prelutsky humor and longer poems, check out “It’s Raining Pigs and Noodles” or “Something Big Has Been Here”.
