Thing-Thing is “not quite a bunny rabbit, not quite a dog either, nor a bear, or cat for that matter.” It’s a funny-looking stuffed animal who is looking for a child to love it. The problem is that the child who gets Thing-Thing for his birthday is the very spoiled, bad-tempered Archibald Crimp. Archibald is so disappointed in the odd little toy that he pitches Thing-Thing out the penthouse window. The story follows Thing-Thing as he falls past windows in the skyscraper. He peeks in the windows as he falls, passing a young couple, a sales meeting, and a kindly old woman. Just when it looks like Thing-Thing will have a hard landing, he lands softly in a baby’s carriage. The baby immediately hugs Thing-Thing, and it’s a perfect match. Lots of fun for a read-aloud.
