This short novel by beloved author Roald Dahl is one I never read as a kid, but with the new movie in theaters now (and getting good reviews), I thought I should check it out. Mr. Fox is a high-spirited can-do kind of guy. When he is outwitted by the three nasty farmers Bean, Boggis and Bunce, Mr. Fox doesn’t give up. He and his little foxes find a way to dig themselves out of trouble, and in the act, they end up helping out other animal families – moles, rabbits, badgers and more. Meanwhile, Bean, Boggis and Bunce are left high and dry while Mr. Fox outsmarts them and steals yummy fowl, food and cider from right under their noses. If you like it when the good guy wins, this is a fun, quick read (only 81 pages), although not as good as my other Dahl favorites like Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Witches and The BFG.
