This is a good choice for younger readers who want a shorter scary story. On Christmas Eve, a young girl’s family slides off the icy road into a snowbank. Kaye and her family are stranded in the woods until they come across an isolated cabin. The elderly woman who lives there invites the family to share her home for the night. But both the woods and the old woman are haunted by the ghost of a young girl wearing a green velvet cloak. It’s up to Kaye to solve the mystery of the “green ghost” and free the spirit. This is a nice alternative to Goosebumps books by a Newbery Honor winning author.
