The Graveyard Book opens with an air of mystery as a whole family is murdered. The only survivor is a baby who has crawled out of the house. The local residents of the graveyard adopt the boy, calling him Nobody Owens. Nobody, or “Bod” for short, grows up in the graveyard learning about life, death, and everything in between from the ghostly residents. While the protection from his pursuer, “Everyman Jack,” can only remain whist Bod is in the graveyard, he learns that he must seek out the wider world in order to really live.
I absolutely love this book and would recommend it for ages 9 and up. The Graveyard Book is witty, charming, and funny. It is a touching coming of age story with a shroud of mystery you’re sure to enjoy.
