The Hunger Games is set in Panem, the place once known as North America. Panem is divided into districts. Every year, each district must draw one boy and one girl to compete in The Hunger Games. The Hunger Games function as a cruel reminder by the Capital that anarchy and disobedience will not be tolerated. Those drawn for the Hunger Games must fight to the death until there is only one tribute standing—all shown live on tv. When Katniss Everdeen finds herself as the tribute for district 12, after taking her sister’s place, she must apply all her skills if she hopes to survive.
This book is recommended for grades 7 and up. It is a gripping beginning to a three part series. Once I picked it up, I couldn’t put it down!
