Hollis Woods has never stayed in one place long. She was found as a baby in the town of Hollis Woods and has been in the foster system ever since. She considers herself tough, but everyone else just considers her, well, difficult. Except for the family she stayed with last summer – they had intended to adopt her. But that didn’t happen, and she went back to bouncing around the foster system. When she ends up with Josie, she finally intends to stay a while. But Josie is getting more and more forgetful, and Hollis’s social worker decides she can’t stay there. In the end, Hollis finds the place she belongs. Along the way, she learns a lot about herself and about what ‘family’ really means.
