Could you define sexism? Could you explain it to someone else? This book offers advice on how to first identify gender bias and then provides ideas and steps to counteract our society’s gender stereotypes. Each point provides ideas and examples to help attain the goal. Many points also have links to outside resources for further reading or whom to contact in the community. The appendix contains a bibliography of nonsexist children’s and adult reference books, which makes this book a great starting place to learn about the deeply rooted notions of gender as well as a great resource for further reading. I would highly recommend this book for Parents, Women’s Studies, and Education majors interested in developing an understanding of gender norms and bias, as the book states, “gender bias hurts everyone.” This book offers a positive and concise approach to understanding gender bias and means to building a more fair future.

This book can be found on our Parents Shelf.
