    Set in Alaska as the western Europeans settled the area, this story explores the devastating effects of diseases that spread through the indigenous communities. Shortly after white men visit the village carrying ominous news about the sickness from downriver and strange red spots marking one of the men, the entire village is plagued by death. Only Millie and Maura, two sisters, survive. While morning the loss of their family and village, the two girls must prepare to face the hardships and struggles of the bitter Alaskan winter as they seek other survivors of the sickness. But, what if they are the only survivors left? Based on the Great Death of the twentieth century that took the lives of two thirds of Alaska Natives, this is powerful story of strength and survival and the courage of two sisters during a terrible pandemic.
