Stand Straight, Ella Kate: The True Story of a Real Giant
A picture book by Kate and M. Sarah Klise

This is the remarkably true story of Ella Kate who at eighteen years old stood eight feet tall. Growing up at an alarming rate made Ella Kate feel left out, secluded from her peers and often the target of children’s teasing. “Stand Straight, Ella Kate” her parents would tell her, though Ella felt there was little to be proud of in her life. After years of seclusion with only her parents to keep her company, a man from Chicago offered a job to Ella to work at his museum where his customers could marvel at her height. Against her parents wishes Ella accepted. Ella was able to overcome her insecurities, use her height as an advantage and bring in enough money to pay off her families debt and become a social sensation. She lived out her life seeing things and places that others could only dream of, remembering to stand straight all the while.
