Turtle is no movie star. She knows things aren’t always perfect. She sees things as they truly are and doesn’t expect that every story has a happily ever after. Maybe even for her favorite orphan, Little Orphan Annie.

After her mama gets a job for a rich older lady who doesn’t like children, Turtle is shipped off to Key West, Florida to live with her mama’s sister whom she has never met. The year is 1935 and everyone has it hard. Turtle’s family is no different. Her Uncle is off working on the highway, her Aunt has it up to her head in laundry and running a household of rowdy boys and Turtles cousins are busy running the “Diaper Gang,” (a group of boys who take care of small babies in exchange for candy) to really notice shes around.

Turtle, a young, adventurous girl with an active mind (but not one fooled by Shirley Temple-type, false Hollywood hope) finds there is time to learn and time to live. But is there any time left to dream? Author Jennifer Holm has introduced a character that is bright, funny and infinitely endearing. Pick up this book and join Turtle in Paradise.
