In this clever and humorous story, Sophie Simon is very smart. So smart, in fact, that her parents worry that she’s not well adjusted. But Sophie doesn’t care, she just wants to learn, and at the moment, that means that she needs a special calculus calculator. However, her parents want her to make friends. So, in an effort to earn the money to buy her calculator, Sophie begins helping the other children in her class who are also having problems with parents who want them to be something other than they are. In the process, Sophie discovers that friends aren’t so bad after all.
Short chapters and big print, along with humorous events and over-the-top portrayals of adults, make this a strong early chapter book.
