Blue Balliett, author of Chasing Vermeer, has introduced us to a unique cast of characters and a new mystery in her latest novel, The Danger Box. Zoomy is not your average kid. First reason being he was rasied by his grandparents after having been left by their door as a baby. Second, he is legally blind which means he has to be in a special class and doesn’t have a lot of friends due to his sight disadvantage. This doesn’t stop him from seeing things, he just has to look a little bit harder and a lot closer… which luckily he is very good at.

Life for Zoomy is filled with notebooks to help keep him on track, days helping at his grandparents antique store and a lot of time investigating any and everything he can see. His everyday routine is flipped upside down, however, when his alcoholic father turns up with a mysterious box and a trail of suspicious questions following behind him: Why was he here? Where had be been? What was in the box? and the most pressing question of all, Did Zoomy really want to know?
While this book touches on a number of big themes and historical issues it also relays the importance of honesty, family and friendship. Lovers of science, mystery and surprise make sure to open this book and get a glimpse into The Danger Box.
