John Grisham has been writing thrillers for adults for decades, but this is his first children’s novel. Theodore Boone is respected in his 8th grade class as the kid who can give legal advice for all their family’s problems. Theo is not your ordinary 13-year-old. As the child of two attorneys, he is obsessed with the law and is known by every lawyer, judge and even the courthouse secretaries. As he watches a fascinating murder trial unfold, Theo suddenly becomes involved way over his head.

I was expecting a little more excitement from Grisham, especially toward the end of the book, but the story leaves you hanging. I am sure there will be sequels, and maybe some loose ends will be tied up in future books. This is a very mild thriller that will entertain kids who are interested in the judicial system or who enjoy watching courtroom scenes on TV.
