Claudia Mills is becoming my favorite early chapter book author. I loved How Oliver Olson Changed the World, and Fractions = Trouble! is just as great. This book is the sequel to 7 x 9 = Trouble!, in which Wilson Williams has trouble learning multiplication. In this book, the third grade has moved on to fractions, and Wilson just can’t seem to understand them, so his parents have hired a math tutor! Wilson is convinced that no one else in his school would ever have a tutor, and he’s embarrassed. And to make things worse, the fact that he’s obviously keeping a secret is causing problems in Wilson’s relationship with his best friend, Josh. Sometimes it seems like his hamster, Pip, is the only one who understands him. Claudia Mills really understands the way kids think and act–this book is a treat.
