May has been having quite a hard time lately – her mother is gone, her grandmother is depressed, and her father is always at work. May takes out her anger on a teacher, Ms. Movado, by painting a picture “Movado the Avacado” on the classroom walls. Now she’s faced with expulsion or an entire summer of summer school with the teacher she hates most. She grudgingly chooses summer school, but it’s even worse than she thought. Not only is she the only student there, but she also has to repaint the whole room by herself!
After many days and many surprises, May learns much more than the meaning of personification. Now she just has to learn how to put the pieces of her family back together.
