The Popcorn Dragon by Jane Thayer

Dexter is a young dragon when one day he discovers that he has a special talent—he can breathe smoke. Dexter is so proud of himself that he wants to show off his smoky breath all the time. There’s just one problem, none of Dexter’s animal friends can breathe smoke. After a while, his friends refuse to play with Dexter because they are so tired of watching him breath smoke. In the end, Dexter finds a way to appease his friends and learns how to use his ability at the appropriate time, being sensitive to those around him.

The Popcorn Dragon is a fun story about friendship, and the importance of not showing off.
