Duck For a Day  is a great choice for young readers transitioning into chapter books.  The story is appealing, with plenty of  funny drawings that move the story along quickly.   Abby and neighbor Noah have a new teacher named Mrs. Melvino.  She’s so cool that she brings a pet to the classroom.  But not just an ordinary hamster or gerbil–it’s a duck named Max!  Naturally, all the students vie for the chance to take Max  home for an overnight visit.  But Mrs. Melvino explains that this duck has “demands.”  Max requires fresh water (no swimming pools or bathtubs allowed), a secure yard, and no other pets in the home.  For Abby this is a dream come true.  She wants a pet so badly, even if it’s only for a day.  Abby  knocks herself out constructing the perfect aquatic environment for Max.  But pesky Noah wants Max to come to his home just as much.  Watch how two kids with nothing in common  but the desire to have the “duck for a day,” work together when they get their wish.
