Little Mouse lives in the deep, dark wood. One day as he is strolling through the woods, he meets various predators: a fox, an owl, and a snake. Each invites him to dine in their homes, but he refuses each by saying he is meeting a Gruffalo. He describes the scary Gruffalo, and each animal takes off in fear. Mouse laughs – don’t they know there is no such thing as a Gruffalo? Mouse is in for quite a shock, though, when the fabled Gruffalo does appear – and he wants to eat Mouse, too! How will the clever little mouse outsmart the Gruffalo?
This book is a huge hit with my three-year-old. He can recite the whole story, and we have spent hours acting it out over and over. He was delighted when I brought home the sequel: The Gruffalo’s Child. The library also owns DVDs of both stories: The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child.
