Life in America hasn’t always been a dream come true. This book tells the true stories of immigrant families who came to New York City in the late 1800′s. The author includes firsthand accounts from five teenagers along with intriguing photographs of their homes and neighborhoods. I was fascinated by the author’s detailed descriptions and research about this era of our country’s history! The immigrants’ stories ultimately offer hope and great courage in the face of incredible adversity. I would recommend this book to children ages 9 and up, their parents, and teachers.
