The author of the popular Spiderwick Chronicles has a new, creepy novel just in time for Halloween season. If you’ve ever been a little bit worried at night that one of your dolls might come to life after you close your eyes, you should not read this book. It is mostly the story of a journey taken by three unlikely friends, Zach, Poppy and Alice, who have been playing with dolls and action figures together for years, weaving an intricate, ongoing story that became more and more complex as they got older. Just as Zach tries to take a step away from the group, Poppy discovers a secret about the “Great Queen,” the old china doll who has eerily watched over the story from her immovable top shelf space. Poppy’s mother has instructed her never to touch that doll. But when Poppy does, she discovers that within the doll resides the ghost of a girl who was wronged. At least, that’s what she tells Zach and Alice. Her two skeptical friends cannot decide if they believe Poppy’s story, but decide it might be best to follow the ghosts instructions just in case, which takes them on an adventure and tests their friendship.
