The Ghost Map by Steven Johnson We are excited to partner with K-State Book Network in exploring their common book for 2014. “The Ghost Map” takes us back to the devastating cholera outbreak in 1854 London as Dr. John Snow and Reverend Henry Whitehead work together to prove the cause. This well-researched history also discusses community, cooperation, and city planning, all with an edge of suspense.

Come join us AT SUNSET ZOO for this month’s ZOOfari Tails storytime, featuring stories about bird migration! Books read will include “Today I will Fly”, “Birds”, and “Flight School”. Free admission for families attending the ZOOfari Tails program. Children’s librarians and zoo docents will read stories, followed by zoo staff showing animals and animal biofacts or leading tours to specific exhibits. Monthly book give-away will be sponsored by Claflin Books. Families who attend at least 6 Zoofari programs can be entered into a drawing for a free one-year Friends of Sunset Zoo family membership. K-State Hale Library staff will show a film based on Suzanne Collins’ best-selling book series, which has appeared on the American Library Association’s list of books that have been banned. We celebrate Banned Books Week to highlight the importance of the freedom to read and to discourage the notion of banning books from libraries. Hosted by Manhattan Public Library in collaboration with Hale Library. Movie description: Rebellion is simmering in Panem as the Capitol prepares for The Quarter Quell and announces a competition that could change Panem forever. Rated PG-13.
