A touching novel of grief, loss and hope, The Year of Fog is the story of how lives can change in an instant, with consequences that touch many lives. Abby and her fiancee’s daughter Emma are walking on the beach when Abby stops to photograph a seal. Her attention is drawn away from Emma for only a moment, but in that instant Emma disappears. The novel follows Abby’s search for Emma, her never-ending guilt driving her to search tirelessly for the lost child. The author explores the nature of memory and perception and weaves these themes throughout the story. As a parent, a missing child is the worst nightmare imaginable, but I found this book to be touching, suspenseful and well written.
